The King County County Department of Corrections, through the Sheriff of King County County, operates the King County Jail in Guthrie, Guthrie, Texas. King County Jail is one of the largest single-site county correctional facilities in the United States, holding up to 7,000 inmates daily and admitting up 76,000 pre-trial detainees each year. King County Jail sits on a 85-acre land with 9 divisions, 4 onsite Sheriff’s departments, a health services facility, 3 education departments, a dayroom, and privatized food service and King County Jail commissary. King County Jail was constructed in 1874. By then, the King County Jail served less than 84 residents. Later in 1916, the population in King County County had grown, and so did crime rates.
