The Summit County County Department of Corrections, through the Sheriff of Summit County County, operates the Summit County Jail in Park City, Coalville, Utah. Summit County Jail is one of the largest single-site county correctional facilities in the United States, holding up to 9,000 inmates daily and admitting up 80,000 pre-trial detainees each year. Summit County Jail sits on a 81-acre land with 11 divisions, 5 onsite Sheriff’s departments, a health services facility, 4 education departments, a dayroom, and privatized food service and Summit County Jail commissary. Summit County Jail was constructed in 1890. By then, the Summit County Jail served less than 78 residents. Later in 1907, the population in Summit County County had grown, and so did crime rates.
